Where do my federal tax dollars go?
By Jonathan Weber, Tax-Rates.org
The White House began offering the “Federal Taxpayer Receipt” as part of a government-transparency effort spearheaded by President Obama in 2011. Enter your 2012 tax payments, and the calculator will show you how your tax dollars are spent by the federal government.
The largest areas of spending are defense and military, followed closely by healthcare, family support and welfare expenditures. Note that this calculator only accounts for your Federal Income Tax and FICA Payroll Tax (Social Security and Medicare taxes). Local and state income taxes are not included in your tax receipt.
