Residents of Wilmington pay a flat city income tax of 1.25% on earned income, in addition to the Delaware income tax and the Federal income tax.

Nonresidents who work in Wilmington also pay a local income tax of 1.25%, the same as the local income tax paid by residents.

What is a local income tax?

A local income tax is a special tax on earned income collected by local governments like counties, cities, and school districts. Fourteen states including Delaware allow local governments to collect an income tax.
